The Dell Wireless 1550 802.11ac card in my Dell Precision M4800 is terrible with its current factory Windows 7 x64 driver, which is version 6.30.223 from 2013.

It's garbage because it frequently fails to connect properly to my wireless-ac access point, which is a Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO. It fails to connect even if the laptop is only 3 metres from the access point! When this happens it'll say it's connected with the correct DHCP configuration, but it will report itself to be connected at a horrific 13Mbps, and any kind of network access, whether local or internet won't work.

I know it's not the access point, because it's done this previously with the BT Hub 5 (which I trashed, wrongly assuming that it was the cause of the problem), and also when this happens, other devices can connect to the access point without issues.

Now I know that the Dell Wireless 1550 is a rebranded Broadcom BCM4352, and from my own experience, Broadcom manufactures high-end 802.11 cards, as long as they're operated with decent drivers. I know this because I also have a Broadcom BCM43222 802.11n PCI card in my desktop PC, and it's flawless with the latest drivers.

So I grabbed Dell's Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 drivers for my machine, but they both failed to install saying that the OS is not supported, and I also tried to force-install them through device manager but it still didn't work.

So my options are either to try and find updated drivers for this card, or change the wireless card to an Intel Wireless-AC 7260/7265, but I don't want to do this because it will void my warrenty and enterprise support contract. Dell latitude e6440 keyboard guide.
