It preserves your computer configuration. Any changes – either malicious or unintentional – are reversed on reboot. This is called Reboot-to-Restore where each reboot restores the computer to its desired configuration. Create virtual partitions to retain important data even if there is no separate physical partition available on the computer. Get enhanced security with protection for the Master Boot Record from rootkit injections and other alterations, making your security bulletproof. Deep Freeze uses patented technology to redirect information being written to the hard drive to an allocation table, leaving the original data intact.
Provide students with flexible lab environment, where their learning can be taken to the next level, without any risk to computers. Prevent configuration drift and secure your public computers from malware that could cause data breaches. Erase session data and issues caused by multiple staff accessing patient data on COWs, with every reboot. Make your office computers even tougher. Revert system changes and the resulting issues caused by different actions with a simple reboot.

Faronics delivers computer management software that helps simplify, and secure multi-user computing environments with Reboot to Restore. Our suite of IT solutions ensures 100% workstation availability, and frees up IT teams from tedious technical support and software issues. Deep Freeze, as the name suggests is software designed to 'freeze' your system so that no matter what changes occur, they aren't permanent and can be reversed at the click of a button. Deep Freeze is a good choice for a variety of PC problems. It can help avoid the associate problems of malware.
Deep Freeze makes your Windows indestructible. It protects endpoints by Freezing a snapshot of a workstation’s desired configuration and settings set by the IT Admin. With a simple reboot, any unwelcome or unwanted changes are removed from the system, restoring it to its pristine Frozen state. Deep Freeze, by Faronics, is a software application available for the Microsoft Windows, and macOSoperating systems which allows system administrators to protect the core operating system and configuration files on a workstation or server by restoring a computer back to the saved configuration, each time the computer is restarted.[2] Also known as Reboot to Restore Software.
Deep Freeze can also protect a computer from harmful malware, since it automatically deletes (or rather, no longer 'sees') downloaded files when the computer is restarted. The advantage of using Deep Freeze is that it uses very few system resources, and thus does not slow down computer performance greatly. The disadvantage is that it does not provide real-time protection, therefore an infected computer would have to be restarted in order to remove malware.[3]
Limitations and security[edit]
Deep Freeze only protects workstations in a 'fresh-booted' state. That is, Deep Freeze prevents permanent tampering with protected hard drives/partitions across reboots, but user activity between restarts is not limited by the program. For example, Deep Freeze does not prevent application installation; a user can install a modified version of a Web browser (but seemingly harmless to the unknowing user) designed to secretly send users' passwords to a server connected to the Internet. As a workaround, Deep Freeze can be configured to restart after user logout, shutdown after a chosen period of inactivity, or restart/shutdown at a scheduled time in an attempt to ensure that no such installations are retained (as rebooting the system returns the system to its original, unmodified state).
Deep Freeze cannot protect the operating system and hard drive upon which it is installed if the computer is booted from another medium (such as another bootable partition or internal hard drive, an external hard drive, a USB device, optical media, or network server). In such cases, a user would have real access to the contents of the (supposedly) frozen system.[3] On a Windows-based computer, this scenario may be prevented by configuring the CMOS (nonvolatile BIOS memory) on the workstation to boot only to the hard drive to be protected, then password-protecting the CMOS. This is a normal precaution for most public access computers. A further precaution would be to lock the PC case shut with a physical lock or tiedown cable system to prevent access to motherboard jumpers.
Deep Freeze can protect hard drive partitions of larger than 2 TB capacity (using NTFS).
